Frequently asked questions

LAKEN is a Spanish brand (from Murcia, to be exact) that has been manufacturing bottles, canteens and many other reusable containers for more than 100 years.

Our most popular product is bottles. Both the thermal ones, with a double layer of 18/8 stainless steel and vacuum insulation, and the non-thermal ones, made of stainless steel, aluminum and Tritan. In various sizes and with different caps, which allow you to drink in different ways.

We also manufacture canteens, that time-honored classic that has in fact been our hallmark for decades. Tableware, lunch boxes, cutlery and camping sets, backpacks with hydration reservoirs for athletes and, of course, a wide range of accessories and spare parts for all our products complete our catalogue.

Because we have more than 100 years of experience in the manufacture of bottles, canteens and other recyclable containers.

Because of our high quality standards, which include traceability procedures that allow us absolute control of the product from the purchase of raw materials until it reaches the stores or in your hands, and that guarantee the manufacture of functional, durable products that satisfy and even exceed our customers' expectations.

Due to our wide variety of products, which cover all types of hydration and nutrition needs.

For our commitment to the environment, which ranges from the choice of materials to the manufacturing processes and the final product, including its packaging and labeling and that it is recyclable.

Because it is a Spanish brand, and supporting local development is always a good idea.

Because we make beautiful bottles, designed by ourselves, that you will carry with you as another piece of your most polished looks.

All of which has led us to be present in more than 60 countries around the world.

Plastic bottles, in and of themselves, are not bad. In fact, for many years they have been used on a large scale to transport water and many other liquids in all corners of the world.

The problem is precisely the massive use of disposable plastic, that of using and throwing away. Every year 500 billion plastic bottles are produced in the world, just plastic bottles!

Of all the disposable plastic produced, only 9% is recycled globally. And of the remaining 81%, half ends up in landfills and the other half polluting rivers, seas, beaches, mountains, cities...

Furthermore, plastic takes an average of 400 years to degrade, leading to a growing and almost unlimited accumulation of it everywhere. Who has not seen images today of a plastic island floating in one of the planet's waterways?

You can use bottles, canteens and many other reusable containers. As simple as remembering to fill them before leaving the house each day.

The useful life of a reusable bottle depends mainly on the material it is made of and the maintenance it receives.

Stainless steel and aluminum ones can last many years. Even those made of Tritan, a high-quality plastic, free of BPA and phthalates, reusable and recyclable, are a good and durable alternative.

If it doesn't get hit hard, if you avoid putting it in the dishwasher as much as possible, and if you store it dry and uncovered, you'll probably want to buy a new bottle when you get tired of always using the same one, long before it goes bad.

Imagine the amount of plastic bottles you can save on your pocket and the environment with a reusable bottle that lasts, for example, 5 years!

LAKEN has a children's line which offers bottles and some other items to cover all the feeding and hydration needs of the little ones.

Of course, all our children's products are made with non-toxic materials and with inks and/or dyes without harmful components. In addition, they have a safe design (no sharp edges and no risk of getting trapped).

Take a look at their designs and functionalities, you'll love them!

Very safe! None of our bottles, canteens and other reusable containers contain BPA, phthalates or other harmful substances. In addition, all LAKEN colored products are painted with non-toxic exterior paints, from approved suppliers.

That is, all our products are 100% safe for food use and, therefore, for you. When you bet on a brand like LAKEN, you are betting with the most demanding care of the environment and yourself.

The three bottles are excellent and meet all the requirements that we demand of a product so that it can go on the market: they are recyclable, reusable and comply with the most demanding international health regulations.

Choosing one or the other depends on your needs:

Do you want it to keep your water cool and your coffee hot? You need a thermal bottle.

And, within thermal bottles, if you like water so cold that you are going to put ice cubes in the bottle, you need one with a wide mouth. Once you have chosen a wide mouth, you can opt for a screw cap, Classic, or a self-opening one, Jannu or Summit.

If the temperature of the water in the refrigerator is sufficient for you, and you are not going to put ice in it, or you are going to use it mainly to keep drinks warm, the narrow mouth reduces heat and cold loss and better fits the standard size of mouth. A Futura plug would be better for you. Or a Hit one, with a mouthpiece similar to the one used by children, very comfortable to drink from.

Don't you need it to maintain the temperature?

If thermal performance is not a priority for you, you can choose between an aluminum bottle, lighter than steel and just as safe, with almost as many cap options as thermal ones; a Basic Steel, made of single-wall steel and with an intermediate diameter mouth (between the Futura and the Classic); or even one made of Tritan (made with EastmanTritan™ TX1001), our high-quality reusable and recyclable plastic, the lightest option for transport, which is also incredibly strong and durable.

Do you already know which bottle best suits your tastes?

Now you only have to choose the size and color you prefer, not easy!

Absolutely.

Indeed, there are aluminum bottles on the market that do not comply with European health legislation, nor the American FDA, etc. They are bottles without an interior coating or with one based on resins that can transmit elements potentially dangerous to health.

The coating we use on Laken aluminum bottles is based on a two-component polyamide that offers complete safety and does not contain any trace of bisphenol A, phthalates or other substances that could be dangerous in its production. Since it does not have any trace of these components, it is impossible for our varnish to transmit them!

In addition, our quality protocol determines periodic internal and external tests and controls, and we demand traceability in the production of raw materials from our suppliers.

Not all steels are the same. Stainless steel is an alloy made from different elements: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen and manganese. The properties of the metal depend on the amount of each element it contains and, in fact, there are more than 57 types of stainless steel on the market.

LAKEN's stainless steel bottles are made with a special steel for food use, free of any type of toxins, with a quality grade of 18/8. These numbers indicate the percentage of chromium and nickel in the steel: 18% chromium and 8% nickel. Together they give the characteristics of hardness and resistance to oxidation.

The main manufacturing location for our products is Spain, but we also have external suppliers, for example from China, who supply us with some specific parts.

Yes. You can even fill it with acidic juices such as orange or apple. Both aluminum bottles, steel bottles and Tritan bottles are suitable for this type of drinks.

We recommend, however, that you take care to wash the bottle immediately after use with these liquids. And under no circumstances leave remains inside the bottle.

Yes there is no problem.

Yes. There is no problem, even with drinks with a high alcohol content.

In general, our materials resist high liquid temperatures.

But it is very important to take into account some caveats when using a bottle with hot liquids.

We advise against putting very hot liquids in bottles that are not double-walled stainless steel. All other materials are, to a greater or lesser extent, heat transmitters, and you could burn yourself by holding the bottle.

If your Laken is stainless steel, you can make the liquid very hot. But we still recommend that you be very careful to avoid accidental burns, especially with the Jannu cap. When you open the valve on the cap, the pressure can cause a few drops of liquid to splash on you and if it is very hot it can cause burns. If you use a screw cap, the risk is lower, but you should still be careful since the bottle has excellent insulating properties and the liquid remains very hot even after many hours have passed since you poured it into your LAKEN.

In single-wall bottles, when the liquid inside is cold and the outside temperature is warm, a condensation effect occurs that forms drops on the surface of the bottle and gives the sensation that our bottle "sweats". It is a normal and totally harmless effect that we can also observe in cans, glass bottles and other containers.

We do not recommend that you put your bottle in the freezer. Any liquid, when it turns into a solid state, increases its volume and can cause your bottle to deform or even break.

If, despite everything, you want to put it in the freezer, take care not to fill it more than three-quarters of its total capacity.

None of our bottles can be used in the microwave.

In general, in order not to shorten the useful life of our products, we recommend hand washing them. Nowadays, there are very aggressive detergents and dishwashers that reach temperatures of up to 90º, and both factors can damage both the cap of your bottle and its exterior paint.

Despite this, if your Laken is not painted, you do not set the dishwasher to a very high temperature and you always put the cap in the top tray, you can use this cleaning method.

The safest way is with hot water and a mild detergent. Shake the soapy water inside well several times, then rinse the bottle well and let it dry with the cap off. Once dry, also store it uncovered.

In the event that you have forgotten to empty your LAKEN for a long period of time, we recommend that you wash it using a little vinegar, or sparkling water. Use a soft brush to clean the inside well. Wash it again with hot soapy water. Rinse and dry well, keeping the bottle uncapped.

Yes, but we recommend that the cap only be handled by an adult as it contains small parts. Additionally, some of our plugs have over-injected gaskets. In these cases (Futura caps on aluminum bottles and Hit on aluminum and steel bottles) it is not possible to remove the rubber gasket(s).

We recommend cleaning your LAKEN with hot water and a mild detergent. Shake the soapy water well several times, then rinse your bottle thoroughly and it is ready for its first use.

Sometimes the liquid used in the bottles sticks especially to the cap and is not removed with normal cleaning. We recommend that you scrub both the bottle and the cap well using a solution of hot water and vinegar.

If it is very extreme, you can use a solution of hot water with a few drops of bleach (4 or 5 drops). You can even leave the bottle and cap submerged in this water and bleach solution overnight.

Then wash the bottle and cap normally (with hot soapy water). Rinse it well and it's ready again to use for years.

Our bottles have a 3-year warranty against any manufacturing defects, but they can be damaged if the bottle is dropped from a certain distance, and this damage is not covered by the warranty.

If you drop an aluminum bottle, you can continue using it without any problem. The internal lining has extraordinary flexibility and is shock resistant.

If you drop a thermal bottle, the worst that can happen is that the valve that maintains the vacuum between the two steel walls breaks and the bottle stops being thermal. In this case, you could continue using it without problem, although no longer as a thermos.
